Governor Alex Otti has indicated that his decision regarding a second term in office will be subject to divine will. He made these remarks on Saturday at a significant civic reception and appreciation event hosted by the ‘Oha Isiala Ngwa People,’ representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Local Government Areas. The ceremony was organized to acknowledge the governor’s achievements throughout Abia State, with a particular focus on these LGAs.
Responding to widespread endorsements and calls for him to seek re-election in 2027, Governor Otti emphasized that divine guidance would ultimately shape his choice. Expressing gratitude for the support, he remarked, “Concerning the appeal to contest in 2027, my position will be made clear at the appropriate time. There is still much work ahead. Just as the outcome of 2023 was determined by God, so will the events of 2027 be.”
He added, “While I am thankful for this endorsement, which I interpret as an acknowledgment of our accomplishments to date, and I appreciate your forecasts, my approach will be to seek God’s counsel. My decision will be communicated publicly in due course, as I am aware my people are anticipating it.”
The governor also took the opportunity at the event to elaborate on his administration’s strategic focus on Aba, explaining that investments in the city are driven by its capacity to spearhead Abia State’s economic advancement. He further reiterated his dedication to governing inclusively, assuring attendees that his administration is concurrently addressing development across all regions of the state.
Additionally, Governor Otti provided clarity on the Abia Airport project, stating that its Nsulu location was chosen strictly on technical grounds, devoid of political influence. He confirmed that full compensation has been disbursed to all landowners impacted by the project. Describing the airport as a “significant and ambitious initiative,” he characterized it as “more than just an aviation facility; it is a comprehensive development hub designed to deliver lasting economic advantages to the populace.”
Otti elaborated on the compensation, saying, “Every individual whose land was acquired has received 100% compensation. Any pending payments are not attributable to us, possibly stemming from incorrect bank details supplied by landowners or instances of multiple claims on a single parcel of land.”
Several prominent figures spoke at the event, commending Governor Otti’s performance and encouraging him to run for a second term in 2027. These included Okenze Chief Ginger Onwusibe, the federal lawmaker for Isiala Ngwa North and South; Senator Darlington Nwokocha; Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu, member for Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency; Mr. Obinna Anaba, the event’s chairman; Mr. Cyril Ishmael, another notable local figure; and Dr. Ugochukwu Agu, President of the Ngwa National Association in the USA and Canada.
During the event, Governor Otti, who leads the Labour Party in Abia State, also formally received Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu and his supporters following their recent move from the Peoples’ Democratic Party to the Labour Party. He also welcomed the state leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, headed by their chairman, Eze Job.
