Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has strongly denied allegations circulating online that he consulted a native doctor concerning his prospects for re-election in the state’s gubernatorial election slated for November 8, 2025.
The claims, fueled by various online reports and video clips, suggested the governor sought traditional spiritual aid to “brighten” his chances of winning a second term.
However, in a formal statement released on Tuesday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo categorically labeled these assertions as “totally false.”
The governor’s office explained that the video clip being misrepresented as evidence of a spiritual consultation was, in fact, taken during a recent official government meeting. This meeting was held with content creators based in Anambra State.
According to the statement, “The session, facilitated by the Special Senior Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, was organised to strengthen the partnership between the state government and the creative industry as part of Soludo’s commitment in encouraging and supporting Anambra’s creative economy.”
Mr. Aburime elaborated that during this interactive session, content creators were invited to showcase their talents, ask questions, and discuss their concerns regarding the state’s creative sector. As part of these presentations, one content creator performed a skit depicting a native doctor – a well-known comedic trope in Nigerian entertainment – to demonstrate their creative skills to the governor and other attending officials.
“This was purely an entertainment performance by a content creator, not a consultation session,” the statement emphasized. The government expressed deep disappointment that “critics and political opponents would stoop so low as to deliberately fabricate malicious narratives from an innocent entertainment performance and spread misinformation to mislead the public.”
The press secretary further asserted that Governor Soludo does not require consultations with native doctors for his re-election bid. Instead, he relies on the support of the Anambra people (“Ndi Anambra”), based on his administration’s “impressive performance” and dedicated focus on delivering the “solution agenda” aimed at transforming the state into a “livable and prosperous homeland.” The statement also highlighted the governor’s commitment to developing Anambra’s creative economy through tangible investments, such as the recently commissioned Solution Fun City project.
Governor Soludo’s office called upon the citizens of Anambra, media outlets, and social media users to disregard the misinformation surrounding the video. “The public is also urged to always verify information before sharing or amplifying content and reject malicious stories sponsored to mislead the public,” the statement advised.
It concluded by reaffirming that “Soludo remains committed to the development of Anambra State and will not be deterred by the antics of desperate political opponents who have chosen the path of falsehood over constructive engagement.”
